Christmas at Disney’s Fort wilderness resort
It’s been one hot summer here in Florida!
So, how am I staying cool?
By thinking about CHRISTMAS!
Can you guess where we’re headed this year? If you said Disney, my friend, you are spot on. Disney is breathtaking at Christmas. We’ve already started singing carols and reading Christmas books in our house, gearing up for what’s to come.
Not only is the entire park decked out in holiday magic, but the Disney resorts are too. Picture life-size gingerbread houses, millions of twinkling lights, and towering Christmas trees—it’s impossible not to feel giddy just thinking about it!
This year, we’re making the holidays extra special by staying at the new cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort, and I honestly can’t think of a better place to jump start our Christmas Spirit. Fort Wilderness is magical year-round, but at Christmas, it’s on a whole new level. Guests go all out, decorating their cabins and campsites with festive displays. Since the resort is so big, we’re renting a golf cart to zip around and admire all the decorations. I can already imagine myself cruising around in my Mickey ears beanie, sipping cocoa, and taking in all the holiday cheer.
Plus, we get to bring our pups! Disney even has a special place where dogs can play while we’re at the parks. I mean, Disney magic for everyone, right?
We’re also planning to take the golf cart over to the beach inside the resort grounds to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks and the Electrical Water Pageant—two must-see experiences that are extra magical during the holidays. I’m pretty sure I can already feel that cool December breeze coming off the water and chilling my nose.
If you’ve never been to Fort Wilderness, it’s home to Tri-Circle-D Ranch, where you can see Cinderella’s ponies up close and even take a trail ride. And don’t forget Chip ‘n Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long, complete with s’mores (you have to bring your own) and a cozy movie under the stars.
And that’s not all! The resort also has several pools, including one with a 67-foot corkscrew slide, and a kids’ splash area. All the pools provide free life vests for the kiddos. There is also a Fort themed play area to explore.
Of course, Magic Kingdom is just a short boat ride away, but the boat also takes you to other nearby resorts like the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Wilderness Lodge, and Contemporary. Each one is beautifully decorated for the holidays, and we’ll definitely be hopping from resort to resort to take in the sights and grab some tasty food.
But believe it or not, there’s still so much more to do at Fort Wilderness—archery, holiday sleigh rides, horse-drawn wagon rides, fishing, canoe and kayak rentals, basketball, volleyball, arcades, and more. Seriously, you could spend days just exploring the resort without ever stepping foot in the parks.
Staying at a Disney Resort Is Totally Worth It
I know some people like to stay off-property to save money, and trust me, I used to be one of them. But after staying at a Disney resort, I’m hooked. There’s just something about being in the Disney bubble that adds so much magic to your trip. And now, staying on Disney property has even more perks.
One of the biggest advantages recently went into effect on July 24, when Disney replaced the Genie+ service with their new Multi-Pass and Single-Pass system. If you’re staying at a Disney resort, you can now book up to three rides per day for your entire stay, seven days in advance. That’s a huge advantage over off-site guests, who can only book three days in advance. It makes a world of difference when you’re trying to snag those hard-to-get ride reservations!
